"consumer reports" type question...

anyone have any experience with those automatic fountains for cats? i've been toying with the idea of getting one for my boys, but never quite did any research past what a friend had and liked (the petmate fountain).

that one is on sale on amazon this week, and i could snag it up... if i decided it would be a good idea.

so... anyone? pros, cons, likes or dislikes?

My friend has one and the cats use it, but I can sit for them a lot and have notice they prefer it in a bowl. I'd still like to get my cat one but I'd always leave water in a dish as another option.
yeah, i kinda figured it might not be a bad idea to keep the old fashioned water bowl around for a while just in case. i might just spring for this one!

I received a drinkwell as a gift from a friend who is a buyer for a pet store. She gave it to me upon hearing that my kitty was showing signs of renal stress(she has to be on prescription food for it), as apparently, the fountain encourages them to drink.. Mine has to be refilled every few days, and the litter box is proof that water consumption is up in the house. For that reason if no other, I would recommend to anyone with a cat.
